RESEARCH THEMES

INFLAMMATORY GUT MICROBES

The gut microbiota is thought to play a fundamental role in human inflammatory diseases. The precise identities of microbes that spur these diseases remain poorly understood. We leverage the human antibody repertoire to seek to identify microbes that play causal roles in diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, HIV, and others.

PRECISION MICROBIOME EDITING

A major challenge in translating microbiome science to the clinic is the lack of tools to safely and effectively modulate the gut microbiome. We are using combinatorial screens in conjunction with data science and biostatistics to identify compounds with discrete effects on the gut microbiome.

MULTI-OMICS INTEGRATION

The most exciting discoveries lie at the interface between disciplines. We use high-resolution profiling of the human immune system and the human microbiome to better understand how these two complex systems impact each other. Bioinformatics and data science underlie all our efforts.
